Loud booms and flashes can be scary for our furry friends! Here are a few simple ways to help keep them calm. As a top rated pet sitter, I personally recommend these products for your canine fur-babies.
Create a cozy, quiet space with their favorite blanket or toy
Calming chews – there are many available locally and on Amazon. These have worked best for my 50 pound pit / lab mix, to the extent where we have been able to get her outside when fireworks are clearly audible. That would be completely laughable before these chews!
Use white noise or calming music to block out sudden sounds
Try a snug-fitting anxiety wrap or shirt – Thunder jackets can be highly effective!
Distract with a long-lasting treat or chew toy. This chew toy is vet recommended. It's a great alternative to hard bone or other hard plastic toys that can tear gums or cause unwanted dental effects. My 10 year old pit lab rescue dog has one and has been consistently uses.
Stay calm yourself — they take cues from you!
If you're heading out of town or need help keeping an eye on things at home, I’m happy to help with pet check-ins or home support. 💛
🐶🐱 Stay safe and give your pets an extra cuddle! I hope everyone has an amazing July 4th weekend!
